Oslo and Akershus contributed to one fourth of the Norwegian GDP in 2003, one percentage point less than in 2002. One of the reasons for this is the use of new statistics in the oil sector for the regional accounts 2003, allocating a bigger part of the total production to the west cost counties, mainly Rogaland, and a smaller part in Oslo.
Finnmark has the largest gross fixed capital formation in relation to GDP
Measured as a percentage of regional GDP, Finnmark had the largest fixed capital formation with a share of 52 per cent. This is mainly because the Snøhvit project, which includes the building of a gas liquefaction plant in this county. Oslo had the smallest share, with gross fixed capital formation equal to 13 per cent of the GDPR. Møre og Romsdal, Rogaland and Sogn og Fjordane was all among the top four in this context.
Regional distribution of gross fixed capital formation is easily influenced by large investment projects in a small number of enterprises. In particular the large establishments in oil and gas extraction, production of aluminium and ocean shipping may cause large changes in the regional distribution of investments.
The activities on the Norwegian Continental shelf, together with the counties Oslo, Akershus, Rogaland, and Hordaland had the largest formation of fixed capital in 2003. Together, these counties had 56 percentage of total gross fixed capital formation in Norway, which is a small decrease from 2002.
Oslo had the largest disposable income.
Oslo had the largest disposable income per inhabitant in 2003, at 209,000 NOK. Akershus and Vestfold followed next. The county of Nord-Trøndelag had the lowest disposable income at 145,000 NOK. The four northernmost counties all had disposable income per inhabitant that well below the national average. This was the also true in the case of the two inland counties, Hedmark and Oppland, as well as Sogn og Fjordane.
