Turnover increased by 1 per cent

Turnover and employment in local kind of activity units (local KAUs) connected to radio and television activities are showing small changes from 2000 to 2001. Local KAUs had a turnover of about NOK 6.2 billion in 2001, and this was a growth of about 1 per cent compared with the year before. The number of local KAUs was approximately the same, but employment went down by 1 per cent.

A total of 359 local KAUs were registered in radio and television activities in 2001. These local KAUs employed 5 325 persons, a decrease of 1 per cent from the year before. Personnel costs amounted to NOK 2.3 billion and corresponded to a moderate growth of 2 per cent from 2000.

The turnover in the radio and television industry increased from NOK 5.8 billion in 1999 to almost 6.2 billion in 2000. This growth seems to stagnate in 2001. Total value added at factor cost decreased by 2 per cent and amounted to around NOK 2.6 billion in 2001. The profitability also went down, and the operating costs were marginally bigger than the operating revenue in 2001.

Few, but big companies dominate the industry

A few big companies characterize the industry. The four greatest companies had 84 per cent of the turnover in the industry in 2001 and 77 per cent of the employment. This makes the statistic sensitive for changes and restructuring in these companies.

Investments increased

The investments in 2000 showed a large decline from 1999. In 2001 investments increased again till NOK 317,2 million, but they were still below 1999-level.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for radio and television are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level the turnover was NOK 6,2 billion, while the total number of employees was 5 295 persons. The investments were NOK 316,6 million.

Local KAUs and enterprises

Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that their enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs.
