45 million physical units

At the end of 2004 special and research libraries have registered about 45 million physical units of which stock of books and periodicals represent 19 millions.

In addition to the physical units special research libraries also have extensive collections of digital documents, databases and current periodical title series. The digital documents represent about 11.7 million documents at the end of 2004.

The libraries had a total expenditure of near1y NOK 1 billion in 2004. The statistics include 315 library units. At the end of 2004 persons employed counted 1 869 of which 75 per cent were librarians.
