Statistics Norway is now also conducting a shorter version of the Quality of Life Survey among some of those who did not answer in order to improve the survey and to ensure reliable and representative statistics.

Your answers are valuable

Statistics Norway needs your answers to produce and publish statistics about the quality of life in Norway.

In the survey, we need information about how the population experiences their quality of life, social relationships, health situation, and how satisfied they are with different aspects of life.

The results of the survey are used to map the quality of life in the population. Authorities and interest organisations can use this to improve the quality of life, and researchers can use the results to find out what contributes to good quality of life.

We will ask you about:

  • overall quality of life
  • health and wellbeing
  • thoughts, feelings, attitudes and sexual orientation
  • social relationships with family and friends
  • work and study environment
  • housing and local environment
  • everyday life, leisure time and denomination

It takes approximately 20–25 minutes to complete the survey.

A sample of 40 000 people aged 18 and over have been randomly selected from the National Population Register to participate in the survey.

We need answers from everyone who has been selected to participate, and we cannot replace you with someone else. Participation is voluntary, but your answers will help us ensure that our statistics about quality of life are as reliable and accurate as possible.

If you have been selected to participate in the survey, please answer by filling out an online questionnaire. You have received a letter in Altinn or by mail, in addition to an SMS from Statistics Norway. In the letter in Altinn, you will find a link to the questionnaire you are going to fill out. In the letter sent by mail, you can either enter the link into a web browser or scan the QR-code with your mobile camera, which will take you to the questionnaire you are going to fill out. You will find your username in the letter you have received from us.

You can also use the “Go to survey” button at this web page and log in using ID-porten.

You can choose whether to answer the survey in Bokmål, Nynorsk, English, Polish, Lithuanian or Arabic.

The survey should work on all web browsers and devices (phone, PC, tablet). However, if you experience technical problems, we recommend you try a different browser or device.

Please contact us at 62 88 56 08 or e-mail svar@ssb.no if the technical issues are not resolved, and we will help you.

You can take a break from answering the web survey and continue later. Use the same link and you will return to the survey at the same place you stopped.

  • Everyone working at Statistics Norway will treat your information confidentially. Individual answers will not be disclosed.
  • Until we publish results from the survey, you can contact us via phone or e-mail to withdraw or ask for your responses to be deleted.
  • The survey is carried out in accordance with the Statistics Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you have further questions about GDPR, you can send an e-mail to personvernombud@ssb.no or you can read more on our information page about privacy.
  • All data held on you and your household will be anonymised within one year after completion of the data collection.
  • For the survey to be as short as possible, we use information about you and your household from registers Statistics Norway already has access to. For you, this includes information about education from school owners and the State Educational Loan Fund, information about work and occupation from the Norwegian Tax Administration and Nav, cause of immigration from the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and information about housing from the Norwegian Mapping and Cadastre Authority. For you and your household, this includes information from the National Population Register and information about income, debt, welfare benefits and other financial support from the Norwegian Tax Administration, Nav and Gjeldsregisteret.
