Increased profit for securities brokers

Norwegian securities brokers experienced a sharp increase in profits in 2006. Good operating profits resulted in a 57.6 per cent increase in profits to NOK 1.4 billion.

The operating income increased by 60.8 per cent to NOK 13.66 billion in 2006. Income from issues and advisory activity is the largest item and rose by 73 per cent to NOK 4.42 billion from 2005. Management of securities and broker commission for equity instruments also increased, and contributed with a large part of the revenues. Personnel costs are still the largest operating expense and increased by NOK 4.4 billion from 2005.

Increase in total assets

The increase in total assets in 2006 was 71 per cent to NOK 30.17 billion. A major part of this increase was caused by the increase in short-term investments and especially the increase in bonds and financial derivates, up by NOK 1.74 billion and NOK 1.07 billion respectively. Short-term claims also increased, with an almost doubling of accounts receivables to NOK 11.44 billion.

These statistics only include securities broking enterprises that are separate legal entities with a licence from the Financial Supervisory Authority of Norway.
