Male-dominated boards

The proportion of male representatives on the boards of private limited companies has not changed in recent years. Eight out of ten board representatives in private limited companies are men, and the corresponding figure in public limited companies is four out of ten.

The female share of board representatives of 40 per cent in public limited companies is thus the statutory minimum required for gender balance in company boards.

In private limited companies, 17 per cent of the board representatives are women. The highest share of female board representatives are in other services (48 per cent), human health and social work activities (38 per cent) and education (26 per cent).

Private limited companies with only men on their boards make up 72 per cent of the companies. The more representatives on a board, the higher the share of enterprises that have both men and women on their boards.

Few female general managers

In 15 per cent of private limited companies, the general manager is a woman. Women manage six out of ten private limited companies in other service activities and almost four out of ten companies in human health and social work activities.

The share of female general managers in public limited companies is 8 per cent. From 2004 to 2012 this share grew by 3.2 percentage points.
