Increased activity for architects, engineers and technical consultancy

The total turnover for local kind-of-activity-units (KAUs) in architectural and engineering activities and related technical consultancy was NOK 39.1 billion in 2004 - an increase of 8.8 per cent from 2003 to 2004. The 9 170 local KAUs employed almost 30 000 persons.

The division other business activities contains several different industry classes as well as the above mentioned. The 43 630 local KAUs in this division had a total turnover of NOK 132.9 billion in 2004, up 7.9 per cent from 2003. It employed over 156 000 people in 2004. Compensation of employees increased by 6.1 per cent, up to NOK 50.1 billion.

Increased growth for real estate

The local KAUs within real estate activities had a total turnover of NOK 98.6 billion in 2004, an increase of 18.1 per cent, or NOK 15.1 billion from 2003. The industry thus continued the trend from the previous years, and the turnover within the industry has now nearly doubled up since the turn of the millennium. The industry employed 24 510 people in 2004, a growth of 6.5 per cent, while the compensation of employees increased by 12.1 per cent, up to NOK 8.0 billion.

Reduced renting activity

The division renting activities includes renting of machinery and equipment without operator and of personal and household goods. The total turnover in this division came to NOK 11.9 billion in 2004, a decline of NOK 1.0 billion from NOK 12.9 billion in 2003. From 2002 to 2004 the turnover has now dropped with 17.0 per cent. The number of local KAUs and people employed has been fairly stable over the period 2001-2004.

Local KAUs and enterprises

The structural statistics are published on both enterprise and local KAU level. The figures on the enterprise level may differ from those on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group after main activity, while at the same time consisting of local KAUs in other groups.
