Nearly half of the growth in turnover came in the industry subclass letting of own property excluding house cooperative that ended up with a total turnover of NOK 47.6 billion in 2003, up 7.6 per cent from 2002. But the subclass development and sale of real estate excluding house building cooperative also contributed to the growth in turnover with an increase of 25.2 per cent - up to NOK 13.9 billion.

Slight growth within business activities

The division other business activities contains several different industry classes. The 41 670 local KAUs in this division had a total turnover of NOK 123.1 billion in 2003, up 0.9 per cent from 2002. It employed 155 600 people, nearly the same number of persons as in 2002. Compensation of employees increased by 0.5 per cent, up to NOK 47.2 billion.

The 415 local KAUs within the industry group investigation and security activities experienced an increase in the total turnover by 13.1 per cent from 2002, ending up on NOK 3.8 billion in 2003. The employment headed in the same direction, increasing by 11.2 per cent up to 9 000 persons.

Among the industry subclasses having a difficult year were provision of personnel. Despite a net inflow of local KAUs the subclass experienced a decrease in total turnover by 1.9 per cent leaving the total at NOK 7.2 billion. The number of people employed also declined quite a bit - down from 24 200 persons in 2002 to 22 800 in 2003.

Backlash for renting activities

The division renting activities includes renting of machinery and equipment without operator and of personal and household goods. The total turnover in this division came to NOK 12.9 billion in 2003, a decline of NOK 1.4 billion from NOK 14.3 billion in 2002. This represents a decrease of 9.7 per cent, and it follows a very good year for the business that experienced an increase in turnover of 7.1 per cent from 2001 to 2002. The number of local KAUs and people employed has been fairly stable over the period 2001-2003.

Local KAUs and enterprises

The structural statistics are published on both enterprise and local KAU level. The figures on the enterprise level may differ from those on local KAU level. This is due to some enterprises being registered in one industry group after main activity, while at the same time consisting of local KAUs in other groups. More about this and other definitions can be found in "About the statistics".
