Business services ended at NOK 9.7 billion, down 3.2 per cent from the 1st quarter, and accounted for one fifth of the service export.

Looking at Norway’s service import, oil and gas services dominate the import also in the 2nd quarter, with a share of 22 per cent. Services related to sea transport, on the other hand, had the largest percentage increase from the 1st quarter to 2nd quarter with 51 per cent. In terms of value, these services grew from NOK 2.8 billion to NOK 4.2 billion.

Figures from shipping industry have been re-introduced to quarterly publicationsOpen and readClose

While the statistics on external trade in services underwent a change in methodology and data sources, numbers for the shipping industry were withheld from the quarterly publications from 2011 to the 1st quarter of 2013.

As from the 2nd quarter of 2013, the shipping industry is once again included in the statistics. Articles from the 2nd quarter of 2013 cannot be compared with previously published articles due to this change in methodology and data source.

Tables including industry and service type numbers are now available in StatBank Norway, with updated figures including the shipping industry, from the 1st quarter of 2012 and onwards.

An article explaining the reasons for this change in methodology and data source will be published during the fourth quarter of 2013. This article will give an account of the relations and differences in definitions between numbers from the shipping industry in the statistics of external trade in services, in balance of payments and in the operating survey for vessels in water transport.
