470 000 participants
The popular education organisations arranged 35 900 courses with 470 000 participants and 1 202 000 lessons in 2009. A total of 64 100 of participants were given the offer of an exam.
The number of courses arranged by popular education organisations decreased by 10 per cent in 2001, and by 9 per cent in 2005. On the other hand, the total number of courses fell by only 1 per cent in 2009 compared to the previous year.
Folkeuniversitetet - Adult Education Association reported the highest number of courses and participants, 9 700 and 158 800 respectively. Next was The Association of Folk Culture with 3 600 courses and 33 200 participants.
64 100 were given the offer of an exam
Fourteen per cent of all participants were offered the possibility of an exam or test in 2009. A total of 9 700 were given the option of a public exam, 32 800 were given the option of another valid exam or certificate, while 20 900 were given the option of an internal test. Seven hundred were given the option of a vocational exam.
A total of 3 700 (6 per cent) of those who were offered a public exam participated in a course at university or college level, and 5 000 (9 per cent) participated in a course at upper secondary level.
