The average for November over the last 10 years was 67 severely injured and 20 fatalities. In November 2010, 35 persons were severely injured and 9 persons were killed. The fatality figures were later adjusted to 37 and 8 respectively.

Of the fatalities last month, nine were car drivers, two were car passengers and two were pedestrians.

So far this year 159 people have been killed in road traffic accidents. The corresponding figure for 2010 was 194. According to preliminary figures, 583 people have been severely injured in road traffic accidents so far this year, compared to 624 last year. Last year’s fatality figure was later adjusted to 660.

Police figures

The statistics are based on accidents reported to the police. Less severe accidents and injuries are often not reported to the police, and may therefore be underrepresented in the figures. The total number of injuries includes casualties where the degree of injury has not been specified. Around 22 per cent of the casualties reported so far this year belonged to this category. Some people registered in this category may be uninjured, and figures are subject to change.
