17 killed in traffic accidents in December

17 persons were killed in road traffic accidents in December 2001 while 912 were injured, according to preliminary figures. Ten of the fatalities last month were drivers of automobiles, three were passengers of automobiles, three were pedestrians and one was a cyclist.

The first overview for December 2000 showed that 24 persons were killed and 916 injured. The average figures for the period 1996-2000 were 23 persons killed and 863 injured.

274 persons have been killed in 2001

In 2001, 274 persons have been killed and 11 350 injured in road traffic accidents on Norwegian roads, according to preliminary figures. This is 67 fewer casualties than in 2000, but about the same number of injuries. The average figures for the period 1996-2000 were 311 and 11 471, respectively.

Of the casualties in 2001, 59 were drivers of automobiles. This is the lowest number of casualties in this group of road users since 1996. Of the 59 casualties, two persons were younger than 15 years, 17 were in the age group 15-24 years, 22 were in the age group 25-64 years and 18 were older than 64 years. The average figure for the period 1996-2000, were 68 casualties in this group of road users.
