30 killed in road traffic accidents

In June 2010, 64 persons were severely injured, while 30 persons were killed, according to preliminary figures.

Persons killed. June. 2001-2010

Persons seriously injured. June. 2001-2010

The average for June over the last 10 years is 105 severely injured and 25 fatalities. In June 2009, 87 persons were severely injured and 24 persons were killed. The fatality figure was later adjusted to 96 and 22 respectively.

Of the fatalities last month, there were 17 car drivers, 4 car passengers, 5 motorcyclists, 1 cyclist and 3 pedestrians.

Police figures

The statistics are based on accidents reported to the police. Less severe accidents and injuries are often not reported to the police, and may therefore be underrepresented in the figures. The total number of injuries includes casualties where the degree of injury has not been specified. Around 26 per cent of the casualties reported so far this year belonged to this category. Some people registered in this category may be uninjured, and figures are subject to change.
