Fewer fatalities in the February traffic

A total of 444 road traffic accidents were reported to the Norwegian police in February 2007. According to preliminary figures, 11 people were killed and 723 were injured in these accidents. Compared with the same period last year, the number of fatalities have decreased, while the number of injured have increased.

In February 2006, the number of fatalities amounted to 19 killed and 700 injured in road traffic accidents. Figures for the ten-year period 1998-2007, show that 18 were killed and 737 injured on average in February. Among the 11 people killed, five were drivers of cars, five were car passengers and one other road-user.

Killed or injured so far this year

The preliminary figures show 34 persons killed and 1 668 persons injured in road traffic accidents so far this year. Of these 1 668 persons, 108 were seriously injured. Comparative figures for January and February last year were 32 killed and 1 463 injured, of these 107 persons were seriously injured. The average figures for the period 1998-2007 are 40 persons killed and 1 559 injured.

Fewer accidents involving heavy vehicles

In January and February, there have been 51 accidents involving lorries. Seven persons were killed and 71 persons were injured. Comparative figures for these two months last year show 57 accidents, 80 injured and 15 killed.

Revised figures for 2006

The revised figures for 2006 shows 7 900 road traffic accidents, 243 persons killed and 11 293 injured. The figures for 2006 and 2007 that are used for comparative purposes in this text are preliminary.
