19 fatalities and 700 injured in road traffic accidents

A total of 458 road traffic accidents were reported to the Norwegian police in February 2006. According to preliminary figures 19 people were killed and 700 were injured in these accidents.

In February 2005 the number of fatalities amounted to 13 killed and 718 injured in road traffic accidents. Figures for the ten-year period 1997-2006 show that 19 were killed and 732 injured on average in February. Among the 19 people killed, nine were drivers of cars; seven were car passengers, one person on cycle and two pedestrians.

Killed or injured so far this year

The preliminary figures show that 32 persons have been killed and 1 463 persons have been injured so far this year. Of these 1 463, 107 persons were seriously injured. Comparative figures for January and February last year were 32 killed and 1 555 injured, of these 120 persons were seriously injured. The average figures for the period 1997-2006 are 40 persons killed and 1 544 injured.

More accidents involving heavy vehicles

In January and February there have been 57 accidents involving lorries. 15 persons were killed and 80 persons were injured. Comparative figures for these two months last year show 49 accidents, 71 injured and seven killed.

Revised figures for 2005

The revised figures for 2005 shows 8 161 road traffic accidents, 224 persons killed and 11 589 injured.
