12 fatalities and 718 injured in February

A total of 455 road traffic accidents were reported to the Norwegian police in February 2005. According to preliminary figures 12 people were killed and 718 were injured in these accidents.

In February 2004 the number of fatalities amounted to 24 killed and 812 injured in road traffic accidents. Figures for the ten-year period 1996-2005 show that 20 were killed and 742 injured on average in February. Among the 12 people killed, six were drivers of cars; four were car passengers, one person on motorcycle and one pedestrian.

Fewer people killed or injured so far this year

The preliminary figures show that 31 persons have been killed and 1 555 persons have been injured so far this year. Comparative figures for January and February last year were 41 killed and 1 661 injured. The average figures for the period 1996-2005 are 42 persons killed and 1 548 injured.

More accidents involving heavy vehicles

In January and February there have been 49 accidents involving lorries. Seven persons were killed and 71 persons were injured. Comparative figures for these two months last year show 43 accidents, 62 injured and two killed.

Revised figures for 2004

The revised figures for 2004 shows 8 403 road traffic accidents, 257 persons killed and 12 103 injured.
