22 killed in November

22 persons were killed in road traffic accidents in November while 817 were injured, according to preliminary figures. Nine of the fatalities last month were drivers of automobiles, five were passengers of automobiles, seven were pedestrians and one person was sledging.

 Persons killed. January-November. 1996-2001

The first overview for November 2000 showed that 31 persons were killed and 887 injured. The average figures for the period 1996-2000 were 25 persons killed and 785 injured.

In the first eleven months of 2001, 255 persons have been killed and 10 233 injured in road traffic accidents on Norwegian roads, according to preliminary figures. This is 62 fewer casualties and 122 fewer injuries than in the same period last year. The average figures for the period 1996-2000 were 288 and 10 435, respectively.

Of the casualties in the first eleven months of 2001, 40 were pedestrians/sledgers. This is one person less than last year, but equal to the average figure of 1996-2000.

Of the 40 casualties, half were older than 64 years, four were younger than 15 years, two were in the age group 15-24 years and 14 were in the age group 25-64 years.

Five cyclists have been killed in road accidents so far this year, while 13 were killed in the same period last year. This is the lowest number of casualties in this group of road users since 1996. The average figure for the period 1996-2000, were 14 casualties.
