25 killed in traffic accidents

According to the first overview 25 persons were killed and 974 persons injured in traffic accidents in June 2001. 10 of the fatalities last month were drivers of automobile, four passengers, seven persons on motorcycle, one person on moped and three pedestrians.

The first overview for June last year showed 35 persons killed, while 857 were injured.

The average number of persons killed and injured for June in the five-year period 1996-2000 was 31 and 989, respectively.

19 of the victims in road traffic accidents last month were between 25 and 64 year of age and six persons were older than 64.

According to preliminary figures 139 persons have lost their lives and 4 864 were injured in road traffic accidents so far this year. The corresponding preliminary figures for the same period last year were 149 and 5 174.

So far this year the number of accidents fell most in Rogaland, Møre og Romsdal and Østfold counties, with respectively 74, 59 and 58 fewer accidents. Hordaland og Vestfold counties increased the most with respectively 31 and 14 more accidents.
