Improved operating result in land transport
The 9 810 local kind-of-activity units (KAUs) in freight transport on road had a total operating income of NOK 35.2 billion in 2006, 12 per cent more than the year before. Total employment was 28 321 persons.
Totally for all local kind-of-activity units (KAUs) in land transport productivity measured in terms of
value added was NOK 26.9 billion, 8.5 per cent more than the year before. The total number of persons employed was 65 178 in 16 448 KAUs. The operating income was NOK 59.5 billion, and the operating result was NOK 6.3 billion, 10.5 per cent more than the year before.
High activity, better profitability
Freight transport by road was the largest industry subclass with total operating income of NOK 35 billion, 12 per cent more than the year before. The operating result at NOK 3.5 billion, increased with NOK 485 million from the year before. This indicates that there is a great demand for services in this industry.
Scheduled motor bus transport
The 284 KAUs in this industry had total operating income of NOK 9 billion in 2006, but the operating result was only NOK 322 million. This gives an operating margin of 3.6 per cent, lower than in most industries.
Railways and trams
Operating income in transport via railways grew by 5 per cent to NOK 5.8 billion in 2006, total employment was 4 000 persons. Tramways and suburban transport saw small changes; operating income was NOK 1.3 billion, the same as in 2005.
Enterprise level
The structural business statistics for land transport are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level total operating income was NOK 59.8 billion in 2005, 9 per cent more than in 2005. The total number of persons employed was 65 678.
Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level. This is due to the fact that enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAUs within the enterprise.

Revision of industriesIn 2007, the enterprises in Statistic Norway’s Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises have been coded in accordance with the new Standard Industrial Classification (SN2007). This has revealed some incorrectly classified enterprises and local KAUs. In such cases, the code according to the current standard (SN2002) has been revised. The impact for land transport has been minor. |
