Less profit for Norwegian vessels

The operating profit in 1999 for vessels in Norwegian foreign-going trade was 12.3 billion kroner. This is a decrease of 2.4 billion or 16.3 per cent from 1998. The operating profit margin was 22.4 per cent, a decrease of 2.6 per centage points.

Last year operating earnings constituted 54.7 billion kroner. Which means a reduction of 3.9 billion or 6.6 per cent from the previous year. Norwegian registered vessels represented (vessels registered in NOR and NIS) 71.8 per cent of the operating earnings, and 81.4 per cent of the operating profit.

Norwegian registered vessels

The operating earnings for tankers in NOR and NIS were 19.2 billion kroner last year, an increase of 235 million from 1998.Tankers constituted 49 per cent of the operating earnings of Norwegian registered vessels. Operating earnings for tankers in NOR increased by almost 1 billion kroner. Operating earnings for Norwegian registered vessels went down from 41.1 to 39.3 billion kroner, a decrease of 4.4 per cent.

Vessels registered in foreign ship registers

Operating profit for vessels registered in foreign ship registers decreased their operating profit from 2.9 billion kroner in 1998 to 2.3 billion in 1999. Operating earnings for these vessels are 15.4 billion kroner in 1999 compared with 17.4 billion in 1998. Operating expenditures are 13.1 billion kroner in 1999 against 14.5 billion in 1998.
