Statistics Norway’s accommodation statistics have undergone major restructuring. This means that the figures for camp sites and holiday dwellings as of January 2013 are no longer comparable with previous years. The restructuring covers various aspects of the statistics. The Enterprises and Establishments Register and a survey of accommodation enterprises in 2012 were used in combination as the new population register. In line with international guidelines, the cut-off was reduced from 20 to 10 bed places for both hotel and holiday dwellings. For camp sites, the new cut-off is 10 pitches. Finally, camping and holiday dwellings now report in terms of guest nights and not unit days. A fixed conversion factor between guest nights and unit days was previously used, but guest nights are now obtained directly or calculated based on similar establishments. The restructuring has had less impact on the hotel statistics, and comparisons with previous figures are possible. Comparisons of figures at lower regional levels should be viewed with caution.
