More guest nights in January

The number of guest nights at Norwegian collective accommodation establishments increased by 12 per cent, from 1.08 million in January last year to 1.21 million in January 2004. The domestic demand increased by 8 per cent, and the foreign demand increased by 22 per cent.

Holiday dwellings had the largest increase. Holiday dwellings have always reported the accommodation statistics as number of unit-nights but published as number of guest nights. The calculation from unit-nights to guest nights is based on the assumption that one unit is equal to 3 persons. Some larger holiday dwellings report their statistics as number of guest nights and the average size of a unit is here larger than 3 persons. This is one reason for the increase.

Domestic guest nights dominates

About 3 of 4 guest nights are Norwegian. For the camping sites this portion is 90 per cent, while the corresponding share for the hostels are 61 per cent.

Slight increase in Sweden

The number of guest nights at Swedish collective establishments increased by 2 000 guest nights compared with January 2003.
