Less guest nights in 2003

The number of guest nights at Norwegian collective accommodation establishments decreased by 2.4 per cent, from 24.4 million in 2002 to 23.8 million in 2003. The domestic demand decreased by 1.5 per cent, while the foreign demand decreased by 4.4 per cent.

The largest foreign market in 2003, Germany, was unchanged compared with 2002. The second and third largest foreign markets Sweden and Denmark, both decreased.

Increase for holiday dwelling?

The number of guest nights at holiday dwellings increased by 25 per cent compared with 2002.

Members of Hostelling International Norway decreased by 3.7 per cent, while camping sites decreased by 1.8 per cent and hotels by 3.4 per cent.

The reason for the increase for holiday dwellings is that 15 of the hotel establishments now correctly are transferred from hotels to holiday dwellings. The 15 holiday dwellings had 133 000 guest nights in 2003, and can account for the increase for the holiday dwellings.

More guest nights in December

December 2003 had 918 000 guest nights compared with 876 000 in December 2002, an increase of 4.7 per cent.

Increase in Sweden

The number of guest nights at Swedish collective establishments increased by 3 per cent compared with December 2002.
