More foreign guest nights

The number of guest nights at Norwegian collective accommodation establishments decreased by 0.5 per cent, from 3.55 millions in August last year to 3.57 millions in August 2003. The domestic demand decreased by 0.8 per cent, while the foreign demand increased by 2.5 per cent.

The two largest foreign markets, Germany and the Netherlands, increased, while all the Nordic countries went down.

Decrease for hotels only

Except for hotels, all the types of accommodation increased. One reason for the increase for holiday dwellings is that some of the establishments were earlier incorrectly categorised as hotels.

Fewer guest nights so far this year

After the first eight months in 2003, there has been a decrease in the number of guest nights by 3 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Increase in Sweden

Swedish accommodation establishments recorded 3.0 millions guest night in August this year, an increase compared with August last year. The largest foreign market in Sweden is Germany, and the number of German guest nights increased.
