During the 1st quarter of 2015, 1.5 million tonnes of cargo in containers were transported to and from the largest Norwegian ports; an increase of 2.7 per cent compared to the same quarter of 2014.

A total of 198 700 TEU containers were handled in the 1st quarter of 2015, of which 139 700 contained cargo. In the same quarter of 2014, 181 600 containers were handled, where 121 500 had cargo. These two figures combined correspond to a total increase of 9.4 per cent.

Increased foreign traffic

The total cargo in the 1st quarter of 2015 was 43.6 million tonnes. This was at about the same level as the corresponding quarter in 2014. The share of cargo transported to and from a Norwegian port was 66.5 per cent of all cargo. In the 1st quarter of 2014, this share was 59 per cent.

Increased liquid bulk

On and off-loading of liquid bulk in the 1st quarter of 2015 totalled 23.4 million tonnes; an increase of 13.2 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2014. Kirkenes port had an increase of 3.2 million tonnes, mainly crude oil. Bergen and Tønsberg ports had a small decrease.

Less transport of dry bulk

A total of 15.2 million tonnes of dry bulk was transported in the 1st quarter of 2015. This was a reduction of 1.4 million tonnes, or 8.3 per cent compared to the same period in 2014.

Stable traffic with the international ferries

One million passengers travelled with the international ferries during the 1st quarter of 2015. This was an increase of 15 000 passengers compared to the same quarter in 2014. The transport of cars, motorcycles and accompanying trailers/caravans had an increase of 18 000 units, while transport had a decrease of 100 units in the same period.

Increased traffic with the Coastal Express Liner

During the 1st quarter of 2015, 67 300 passengers travelled with the Coastal Express Liner. This was an increase of almost 7 per cent compared with the 1st quarter of 2014. The month of February saw a decrease in the total number of travellers, while January and March had an increase compared to the same period in 2014.
