Less cargo over Norwegian ports

The total amount of cargo carried in the 3rd quarter 2006 was 45.1 million tonnes. Compared with the same quarter in 2005 this was a decrease of 3.9 per cent.

Wet bulk and dry bulk constitute 52 per cent and 32 per cent of the total amount of cargo carried. Port of Bergen handled 62 per cent of the total wet bulk cargo.

Increase in ferry transport

In the 3rd quarter 2006, 2.3 million passengers were carried on the ferry services to and from Norway. This is an increase of 24 824 passengers or 1.1 per cent from the same quarter previous year. 1.4 million passengers or 61 per cent of all passengers traveling abroad, traveled through the ports of Oslo and Kristiansand. 463 440 cars, motorcycles and buses were carried on ferries to and from Norway in the 3rd quarter 2006. This is an increase of 3.3 per cent compared with 3rd quarter 2005. Ferries in international traffic saw an increase in port calls by 4.2 per cent compared with same quarter in 2005.

Container traffic

Measured in TEU (twenty foot equivalent unit) 146 817 containers were transported over Norwegian ports in 3rd quarter 2006. This is an increase of 3.8 per cent from the same quarter previous year. 101 554 of this were containers with cargo. The port of Oslo accounted for 28 per cent of all containers transported over Norwegian ports.

Coastal Express Liner

170 512 passengers traveled by the Norwegian Coastal Liner in the 3rd quarter 2006. This is an increase of 3 per cent compared with 3rd quarter 2005. The numbers of passengers traveling southbound were 81 208 and 89 304 traveled on northbound route.
