The turnover in 2002 still exceeded the 2000 level, but it was a negative development compared with 2001 and the turnover growth the recent years. Total operating result is on the other hand improved in 2002 compared with the previous year. Turnover, by industry subclass. Local KAUs. 2000-2002. Billion NOK

Increased total value added

In spite of reduced turnover the total value added had increased by 2 per cent and amounted to NOK 19.3 billion in 2002. The increased total value added is caused by the reduced operating costs. The personnel costs also decreased in 2002 and were lower than the total value added.

Reduced turnover for consultancy

The local KAUs within consultancy had a turnover of NOK 31.4 billion in 2002, a decrease of NOK 2.5 billion. On the contrary, the operating result slightly improved compared to the previous year. 30 185 person were employed within consultancy in 2002.

Increased investments

The local KAUs increased their investments by 20 per cent compared to 2001. Software consultancy and supply, with about 72 per cent of the turnover in the industry division, had a decrease in the investments of 44 per cent. The local KAUs within data processing, data base activities and other computer related activities on the other hand, increased the investments and the investments amounted to 714, 407 and 238 million NOK respectively. The investments figures show investments in fixed assets, improvements are added while sales are deducted.

Increase in the number of enterprises

The industry division is characterized by a large number of new enterprises, but also a large number of cessations. This causes variations in the figures from one year to another. The number of enterprises has increased from 2001 to 2002. It is to a large extent due to better register information as a result of the value added tax (VAT) reform. Due to this, enterprises with low turnover that were not included in the statistics for previous years, are included in 2002.

Users should also know that the revision of industry codes in the Central Register of Establishments and Enterprises have led to considerable changes for some of the industries that influence the comparability.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for computer and other related activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level the turnover decreased by 4 per cent and amounted to NOK 44.2 billion, and 39 090 people were employed in 2002.

Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level due to the fact that their enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAU's. More detailed information about this and other definitions used in the structural business statistics for cultural activities is available in "About the statistics".
