Every second enterprise has homepage

Almost half of all enterprises with at least 10 employees had established a homepage by the end of 2000. Large enterprises use homepages more than small ones. The share of enterprises with homepage is highest in banking and finance and lowest within retail trade.

48 per cent of all Norwegian enterprises with at least 10 employees had established a homepage by the end of 2000. The share increased a great deal during the last year and grew from 36 per cent by the end of 1999. This year will also experience a strong growth in the number of homepages, according to the enterprises' plans. 16 per cent of the enterprises reported that they plan to establish a homepage in 2001.

77 per cent of large enterprises have homepage

The use of homepages varied a lot with the size of the enterprises. By the end of 2000 77 per cent of all enterprises with at least 100 employees had established a homepage. Among enterprises with 10-19 employees the share was only 41 per cent. A selection of the smallest enterprises with under ten employees was also included in the survey. Only 15 per cent of these enterprises reported to have established a homepage by the end of 2000.

Highest share in banking and finance

The share with homepage is highest within banking and finance. In this industry 87 per cent of the enterprises had established homepages by the end of 2000. The group "Other services" followed next with 64 per cent. Wholesale trade and manufacturing were above the average with respectively 62 and 53 per cent. Within manufacturing the highest ratio of enterprises was planning to homepages in 2001, 21 per cent. The share was by far lowest in retail trade. Only 23 per cent of the enterprises in this industry reported that they had established a homepage.

Mainly used for marketing

Enterprises that had established homepages reported that the most important area of use was marketing. By the end of 2000 93 per cent of the enterprises reported that they used their homepage for marketing purposes. At the same time no more than 38 per cent used the opportunity homepages create to receive orders. 31 per cent of the enterprises gave customers and subcontractors access to databases through a homepage. 29 per cent of the enterprises used their homepages to provide after-sales support. 11 per cent of the enterprises sold goods/services in digital form. Only 8 per cent of the enterprises used their homepage to receive payment for goods/services.
