From 29 January 2026, PxWeb version 2 is our primary user interface to Statbank Norway. Several users have tested this in recent months and given us useful feedback. The following has recently been implemented:

  • All links to Statbank tables and saved queries lead to the new interface
  • API query for each table can be downloaded
  • Each table in the new user interface has a link to the same table in the old interface
  • The search on Statbank's start page now includes all variables and classifications

Both new and old interface are available

The new interface is still under development. The old solution will still be available, until we have put even more functionality in place:

  • Retrieve more data cells in one operation, with good response times. For now, the limit is set at 150 000 cells.
  • Link from the table to the statistics page and About the statistics
  • Link from the table to classification standards and variable definitions
  • Search at the start of the value/code in the value lists
  • Manual rotation
  • Hide empty rows
  • Choose display of code and text
  • More download formats (e.g. Excel with code/text)
  • Better navigation between table and table list

Save query (link to updated table) is now only available in the new interface.

Improvements to come later

We have many wishes and plans for further development of PxWeb. Of these, we mention:

  • Initially show only those tables that are still being updated
  • Show table content as a graph
  • Freeze table header
  • Filter for regional division
  • Able to change the width of the variable boxes
  • Horizontal scrollbar also at the top of the table

Functionality that is not included in PxWeb version 2

Not all functionality in the old interface will be continued. These are editing options that are rarely used, are difficult for users to understand, or will not work in the new home page:

  • Percentage calculation
  • Sort table content
  • Separate search screen for long value lists
  • Select via group
  • Subtitles in the table lists
