Lower construction costs

The construction costs for main roads and provincial roads decreased by 0.2 per cent from the 4t h quarter last year to the 1s t quarter this year and are only 0.7 per cent higher than a year before.

The machinery costs in the Construction cost index for roads, decreased by 1.1 per cent from the 4t h quarter of 2001 to the 1s t quarter of 2002, caused by lower oil prices.

The costs for mass moving decreased the most by 0.9 per cent from the 4t h quarter 2001 to the 1s t quarter 2002. The costs for blasting and ditches, basins and pipes fell both by 0.4 per cent in the same period.

Maintenance of roads

The construction costs for maintenance of main roads and provincial roads decreased by 0.4 per cent from the 4t h quarter last year to the 1s t quarter this year, and are 0.3 per cent higher than a year before.
