Increase in public purchasing

In 2003 the public sector purchased NOK 240 billion worth of goods and services. This is an increase of 5 per cent compared with the previous year.

The general government proportion of the overall public purchases was 80 per cent or NOK 192.1 billion. The remaining 20 per cent were purchases made by public unincorporated enterprises.

The overall public purchases amounted to 15.3 per cent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

Local government by more

In general government the purchases totalled NOK 79.4 billion in 2002. This is an increase of NOK 6.3 billion, or 8.7 per cent.

What is public purchasing?

Public purchasing covers expenditure on goods and services and on gross fixed capital formation in central and local government, and similar purchases undertaken by state and municipal quasi corporations.

Increase in public enterprises

In 2003, the public unincorporated enterprises' proportion of the overall public purchases amounted to NOK 47.5 billion. This is an increase of NOK 5.4 billion, or 12.8 per cent.
