Large turnover in cultural services

The enterprises in the industry division for cultural services had a turnover of NOK 10.1 billion and employed 9 470 people in 2002, according to preliminary figures. The statistics cover the industry groups radio and television activities, motion picture and video activities and news agency activities.

The enterprises within radio and television had a turnover of NOK 6.,3 billion in 2002., This was an increase of 2.4 per cent from the year before. A total of 282 enterprises were registered in 2002, compared with 298 enterprises in 2001. Part of the decrease is due to mergers. The industry group employed 5 274 people in 2002, a slight decrease from 2001.

Extended statistics for cultural services

Cultural services consist of a selection of the industry groups within the industry division 92 Recreational, cultural and sporting activities. The group Motion picture and video activities consists of motion picture and video production, motion picture and video distribution, and motion picture projection. The industry group employed 3 330 people in 2002 and had a turnover of NOK 3.1 billion. News agency activities also include freelance journalists and press photographers, and employed 866 people in 2002. The turnover amounted to NOK 731 million. . For these industry groups structural business statistics are produced for the first time.

Preliminary figures

The preliminary figures for number of enterprises, turnover and employment are published while data are still being revised and may therefore deviate somewhat from final figures published at a later date. While preliminary figures are published on the enterprise level only, final figures are published on both the enterprise level and the local kind-of-activity unit level.

The employment figures are compiled according to definitions given by the EU regulation on structural business statistics and are measured as an annual average. Persons with more than one job are counted as an employee in several enterprises.
