Increased turnover in radio and television

The local KAUs in the industry division for cultural services had a turnover of NOK 10.2 billion and employed 9 379 people in 2002. The statistics cover the industry groups' radio and television activities, motion picture and video activities and news agency activities.

The local KAUs within radio and television had a turnover of NOK 6.3 billion in 2002, an increase of 3 per cent from the year before. The industry group employed 5 282 people, 43 people less than the year before and a decrease of 1 per cent.

Increased total value added

Total value added decreased in 2001, but increased by 10 per cent in 2002 and amounted to almost NOK 2.9 billion. This is a result of increased operating income and decreased operating costs. Radio and television had a positive operating result thet amounted to NOK 117 million in 2002. The investments amounted to NOK 400 million.

Motion picture and video activities for NOK 3 billion

Motion picture and video activities had a turnover of NOK 3 billion and employed 3 226 people in 2002. Motion picture projection had a negative operating result, while motion picture and video production and distribution had positive operating results. News Agencies had a turnover of NOK 823 million and employed 615 people in 2002.

Extended statistics for cultural services

Cultural services consist of a selection of the industry groups within the industry division 92 Recreational, cultural and sporting activities. Motion picture and video activities consists of motion picture and video production, motion picture and video distribution, and motion picture projection. News agency activities also include freelance journalists and press photographers. For these industry groups structural business statistics are produced for the first time.

Statistics on the enterprise level

The structural business statistics for cultural activities are compiled both on the local KAU level and on the enterprise level. On the enterprise level the turnover also was NOK 10.2 billion, while the total number of employees was 9 346 persons in 2002.

Figures on the enterprise level will usually deviate somewhat from figures compiled on the local KAU level due to the fact that their enterprises are registered in the industry subclass that comprises the main part of the activity of the enterprise, and therefore may be registered in a different industry than some of the local KAU's.
