Hunters shot less small game
In the hunting year 2000/01 a total of 846 700 small game were felled. This is a decline on 11 per cent from previous hunting year. The reduced yield is mainly caused by the decline in grouse hunt.
Totally 489 900 grouses were felled in the hunting year 2000/01, 61 700 fewer than previous hunting year. Grouse accounted for 58 per cent of all small game both years.
Most grouses shot in Nordland county
77 per cent of the grouses were felled in the five northernmost counties. Nordland is the county where most grouse were shot; 111 300 birds were shot in Nordland last hunting year. Troms has the second highest yield with 85 800 grouses and in Nord-Trøndelag a total of 81 600 grouses were felled.
Decline for roe deer and hare
The number of roe deer felled during the 2000/01 hunting year was estimated at 31 300 animals. This is 5 600 less than during the 1999/2000. 45 per cent of the roe deer were felled in Østfold, Akershus and the Agder counties.
There has been a sharp decline in the number of felled hares last hunting year. A total of 32 800 hare were felled, a reduction on 9 800 animals from recent year. The number has not been this low since this statistics began in 1971/72.
