Decrease in roundwood sales and prices

A total of 1.7 million cubic metres of timber was cut for sale in the third quarter of 2008. The average timber price decreased by NOK 40 per cubic metre compared with the third quarter of 2007.

For the country as a whole, commercial roundwood removals decreased by 8 per cent in the third quarter of 2008 compared with the third quarter of 2007.

The average price of saw logs is falling

According to preliminary calculations, the forest owners obtained a price of NOK 333 on average per cubic metre sold, NOK 40 less than in the third quarter of 2007, and NOK 43 less than in the second quarter of 2008.

The average price of saw logs of spruce was NOK 100 less than in the third quarter of 2007 and the average price of saw logs of pine was NOK 83 less. Pulp prices for pine and spruce were on average NOK 36 and NOK 50 higher respectively than in the third quarter of 2007.
