Sea fishing of salmon increases

In 2001, the total catch of wild salmon and sea trout in the Norwegian fjords was 704 tons, of which 693 were salmon. Compared with 2000, the catch has increased with 66 tons.

The average size of the salmon caught was considerably larger than in the previous year. The average weight was 3.8 kilo in 2001, as compared to 3.3 the year before. 28 per cent of the salmon caught weighed under 3 kilos, 50 per cent between 3-7 kilos and 22 per cent over 7 kilos.

Finnmark is the most important county, with a total catch of 246 tons of salmon. Except for Østfold and Nord-Trøndelag, there has been an increase in all the counties.
