Decrease in sea fishing of salmon

According to preliminary figures, the total catch of wild salmon and sea trout in the Norwegian fjords amounted to 436 tonnes in 2007, 87 tonnes, or 17 per cent, less than in 2006.

The total catch consisted of 426 tonnes of salmon and 10 tonnes of sea trout. The average weight of salmon was 4.8 kilos in 2007, as compared with 4.2 kilos the year before. 13 per cent of the salmon caught weighed under 3 kilos, 51 per cent between 3-7 kilos and 36 per cent over 7 kilos

Finnmark is the most important county for sea catches of salmon, with a total catch of 192 tonnes in 2007. From 2006 to 2007, the catch has decreased in all counties, except Hordaland and Finnmark,.
