Purchase price up 8 per cent

A total of 9 000 agricultural properties were transferred to new owners in 2013. In two thirds of the transfers, the seller and buyer were related. One third of the properties were sold on the free market. The average purchase price for properties sold on the free market increased by 8 per cent compared to 2012.

During the period 2000–2013, approximately 5 per cent of all agricultural properties were transferred annually. In 2013, 9 000 transfers of agricultural properties were registered; almost the same as in 2012. One in three properties were transferred as licensed decedent estates or inheritance of decedent estates, almost one in three properties were sold on the free market and more than one in four properties were transferred as donations . Most of the donations were transfers within the family .

Higher prices per transfer

The average purchase price for all transferred properties sold on the free market increased from NOK 1 795 000 in 2012 to NOK 1 944 000 in 2013; an increase of 8 per cent. The average purchase price in 2013 rises to NOK 2 098 000 when excluding transfers between family members.

Age of new owners lowest in family transfers

The average age of new owners of agricultural properties was almost 51 years in 2013. For transfers registered as a donation, which is normal for a family transfer, the average age of the new owner was 41 years. For properties transferred as licensed decedent estates or inheritance of decedent estates, the new owners were 64 years old on average.
