More agricultural properties transferred

Nearly 9 000 agricultural properties were transferred to a new owner during 2012, up 6 per cent from 2010. One third of the properties were sold on the free market, and two out of three registered transfers had agriculture as purpose of use.

During the period 2000 – 2012, approximately 5 per cent of the agricultural properties have been transferred annually. In 2012, there were registered 500 more transfers of agricultural properties compared to 2010. One in three properties was transferred as licensed decedent estate or inheritance of decedent estate, almost one in three properties was sold on the free market and more than one in four properties were transferred as donations . Most of the donations were transfers within the family .

Higher prices per transfer

The average purchase price for all transferred properties sold on the free market in 2012 was NOK 1 795 000, an increase of more than 20 per cent compared to 2010. This figure rises to NOK 1 922 000 when transfers between family members are excluded.

Age of new owners lowest in family transfers

The average age of new owners of agricultural properties was almost 52 years in 2012. If the transfer is registered as donation, which is normal for a family transfer, the average age of the new owner was 42 years. When the properties are transferred as licensed decedent estate or inheritance of decedent estate, the new owners are in average 64 years old.
