Most small game hunters

A total of 143 800 persons have been hunting in the hunting year 2001/02. 66 per cent of the hunters took part in small game hunting, while 60 per cent hunted cervids.

190 900 hunters paid the hunting tax for the hunting year 2001/2002, of which 143 800 reported being active in hunting.

In the hunting year 2001/02 a total of 95 300 hunters practised small game hunting. 66 per cent of all active hunters took part in small game hunting. Small game hunting is being practised all over the country. Most small game hunters lived in Akershus county (8 700 hunters). In Sør-Trøndelag and Nordland there were respectively 8 700 and 8 200 small game hunters.

61 per cent of the small game hunters were solely hunting small game, while 39 per cent also took part in hunting on cervids.

Hunting on cervids

A total of 85 900 hunters hunted cervids in 2001/02. This amounts to 60 per cent of all active hunters. 43 per cent of those hunting cervids were also participating in small game hunting. Cervids include moose, deer, wild reindeer and roe deer. 7 900 cervid hunters lived in Hedmark county, while 6 000 hunters lived in respectively Telemark and Sør-Trøndelag.

Among the cervid species moose hunting is most common. A total of 55 600 hunters took part in moose hunting in 2001/02. The second most frequent hunting was roe deer hunting which were practised by 36 700 hunters. 27 500 hunters participated in deer hunting. Most of the deer hunters live in Western Norway. Wild reindeer hunting was practised by 10 200 hunters in 2001/02.

57 per cent of the cervids hunters were solely hunting cervids .
