Stable fish catch

According to preliminary figures Norwegian vessels delivered 1.5 million tonnes of fish during the first six months of 2005. Including crustaceans and molluscs, the landed value amounted to NOK 5.6 billion, an increase of 14 per cent compared with the first six months of 2004.

The cod catch came to 166 700 tonnes, worth NOK 2.1 billion. This accounts for 11 per cent of the total catch quantity and 39 per cent of the catch value. Measured by the landed value of catch, cod fishing is the most important of fisheries.

The herring catch increased 11 per cent compared with the first six months of 2004. Landed value of herring increased from NOK 663 million to NOK 1.1 billion. This corresponds to 20 per cent of the total catch and 20 per cent of the total landed value in 2005.

The catch of blue whiting came to the same amount as in the first half of 2004; comprising 46 per cent of the total catch in 2005.

Cod and haddock figures include the fishing preformed by Norwegian vessels on Russian quotas.

48 per cent of the catch was made into meal, oil and animal food, whereas 33 per cent was frozen or minced and 9 per cent was salted.
