Drop in river catch of salmon

A total of 404 tonnes of salmon, sea trout and migratory char were caught in 2004, a decrease of 176 tonnes compared with 2003. Tana and its tributaries are still the most important river system in 2004.

The total catch consisted of 316 tonnes of salmon and 89 tonnes of sea trout and migratory char. Compared with 2003 the decrease came to 33 per cent for salmon and 16 per cent for the two other species.

The average weight of salmon was 3.3 kilos in 2004, the same as in 2003. 33 per cent of the salmon weighed less than 3 kilos, 39 per cent between 3 and 7 kilos and 28 per cent above 7 kilos. The corresponding percentage distribution for 2003 was 37, 34 and 29 respectively.

Tana and its tributaries are still the most important river system in 2004, with an estimated catch of 36 tonnes. This is 50 tonnes less than the year before. Next were Gaula, Namsen, Orkla and Numedalslågen.
