Gross income for the self-employed amounted to NOK 572 000 on average in 2012. This is an increase of NOK 18 000 or 3.0 per cent from the previous year.

Personal income from wages and public pensions amounted to NOK 289 000 on average, increasing NOK 17 000 or 6.0 per cent from the previous year. Entrepreneurial income amounted to NOK 236 000, the same amount as in 2011. Capital income amounted to NOK 46 000, increasing NOK 1 000 from 2011.

A total of 337 000 persons reported entrepreneurial income in 2012. Of these, 271 000 persons were assessed as a sole proprietorship.

More self-employed have income from wages and public pensions

About 60 per cent of the self-employed have their main income from wages and public pensions. The number of self-employed that have their main income from wages increased by 2.3 per cent from the previous year, while the self-employed that have their main income from industries decreased by 2.8 per cent.

Growth in most industries

Compared with 2011, operating profit increased in all industries except industries in cleaning and education. Sole proprietorships from primary industries had an increase in operating profit of 6.5 per cent from the previous year. Operating profit amounted to NOK 388 000 on average for sole proprietorships in primary industries.
