Your answers are important
To get an accurate picture of rental prices for different types of homes in different parts of Norway, it is very important that as many people as possible participate. We cannot replace your home with another home if you choose not to participate. The homes that have been selected to participate (the sample) represent the entire Norwegian rental market.
The sample consists mainly of rented homes. However, Norway does not have a complete register of rented homes. Because of this, some selected homes may be owner-occupied or used in other ways. We want everyone to participate, regardless of whether you own your home, rent it, or use a rented dwelling for other purposes.
To produce good and reliable statistics we need information about:
- the size and quality of the home
- the type of home you rent
- the length of the rental contract
- how much you pay in rent
The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete.
A small number of those answering the survey will be contacted every month from November this year to October next year for a short web survey about the rent they pay each month. To measure monthly changes in rental prices we need answers every month, and the data collected will contribute to the consumer price index which is published by SSB each month.
If the home you live in is selected, you will receive an e-mail or a letter from us. You will also receive an SMS invitation to participate.

- You can also respond by clicking the “Go to survey” link at the top of this page or use this link: https://svar.ssb.no/boligen. You will be asked to log in using the username and password provided in your e-mail or letter.
- The questionnaire is available in Norwegian and English
- If you do not rent the home we are contacting you about, you will only need to answer a couple of questions. This is also the case if you have moved or if you do not use the dwelling yourself.
The survey should work in all browsers and on all devices (mobile phone, PC, tablet). If you experience problems, we recommend trying a different browser or device.

A sample of 37,000 dwellings across Norway is selected to participate in the survey. We need answers from everyone selected, as we cannot replace your home with another if you choose not to participate.
Participation is voluntary, but your contributions will lead to more reliable statistics on rental prices in Norway.
- All employees at Statistics Norway treat your information as confidential. Individual responses will never be disclosed.
- Until your answers are part of statistical materials you may contact us to withdraw from the survey and request that your answers are deleted.
- After December 1, 2028 all responses will have been anonymized.
