More out-patient consultations

Preliminary figures show a strong growth in the number of outpatient consultations in 2002. More than 834 000 consultations were carried out at psychiatric institutions, an increase of almost 100 000 compared with 2001.

The increase has taken place in institutions for adults as well as in institutions for children and adolescents, an 11 per cent increase for adults and 21 per cent increase for children and adolescents respectively.

Increase in man-years

Psychiatric staffing, measured in man-years, is still rising. From 2001 till 2002 the number of man-years in adult psychiatry rose by almost 2 per cent. The corresponding figure for children and adolescents psychiatry increased more than 8 per cent.

Beds

The decline in the number of beds at psychiatric institutions for adults continues. The number of beds at psychiatric institutions for children and adolescents increased from 316 in 2001 to 320 in 2002.
