Continued growth in turnover in capital goods

Seasonally adjusted figures show that the turnover of capital goods increased by 6.9 per cent from August to October 2008 compared to the previous three-month period. This is explained by large deliveries in machinery and equipment and transport equipment. Turnover in the domestic market rose by 8.5 per cent, while export turnover fell by 2.6 per cent.

The turnover of intermediate goods increased by 1.9 per cent in the same period. Export turnover rose by 3.9 per cent and the main contributor to this growth was basic chemicals. The upturn in basic chemicals is partly explained by an increase in output (see Index of production ).

Consumer goods turnover rose by 2.8 per cent. Domestic turnover increased by 1.8 per cent, while exports rose by 5.0 per cent. Food, beverages and tobacco products contributed most to the growth in consumer goods turnover. This development is due to both higher output and higher prices (see Producer price index .)
