Production, consumption and export surplus of electric energy in October. 1993-2010. GWh

From January to October this year consumption excluding power-intensive manufacturing amounted to 70 084 GWh. This is 4.9 per cent higher compared to the same period in 2009. Households, services and manufacturing other than the power-intensive accounted for the majority of the consumption. Much of this electricity is used for heating.

Lower electricity production

The production of electricity amounted to 11 241 GWh in October; 10 per cent lower compared with the same month last year. The reduction can be viewed in conjunction with the reduced reservoir level.

According to NVE the reservoir level was 68.7 per cent at the end of week 43. This is 18.4 percentage points below the week median level and 16.1 percentage points below the level in the corresponding week in 2009.

So far this year, 97 TWh has been produced; a decline of 8.5 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.

Increased electricity consumption in power-intensive manufacturing

Electricity consumption in power-intensive manufacturing came to 2 454 GWh in October; 7.4 per cent higher compared with the corresponding month in 2009. Compared to the monthly average in the period 2006-2008, electricity consumption was 12 per cent lower in October. So far this year the consumption in power-intensive manufacturing amounts to 24 TWh, 7.9 per cent higher than the same period in 2009.

Net exports of power

Norway’s exports of electricity came to 1 368 GWh in October, while imports totalled 748 GWh. This gave net exports of 620 GWh. So far this year net imports amount to 6 164 GWh.
