Record high production and exports of power

The year 2006 started off with record high production of power. The total production of electricity in January amounted to 14 819 GWh. This was 10.5 per cent higher than the production in January 2005 and the highest production measured in January since the monthly statistics started in 1979.

High export of electricity

Exports remained on a high level. During the first month of the year exports of power amounted to 1 544 GWh, and imports of electricity was 251 GWh. Net export was 1 293 GWh - almost twice as high as net exports in January last year.

The reservoir filling was in the mid January 68.3 per cent of total capacity. This is 3.2 percentage points higher than the median and 0.8 above January 2005. The spot price on Noordpool in mid January was 39.3 NOK øre/kWh. The first week in January the price was NOK 32.5 øre/kWh and rose to NOK 40.6 øre/kWh at the end of the month.

Increased gross domestic consumption

Gross domestic consumption of electricity was 13 526 GWh. This represent an increase of 6.2 per cent compared to the same period last year. While consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing fell by 4.5 per cent compared to 2004, it was the category other consumption (Gross domestic consumption subtracted consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing) that contributed to the rise in total consumption. Other consumption comprises household consumption, consumption in the service sector and other manufacturing and experienced an increase of 9.4 per cent from Joanuary last year.
