High production of power in May

The production of electricity remains at a high level in May as well. The electricity production was 9 903 GWh. This is a rise of 22.2 per cent compared with May last year. Not since the record year 2000 has the production in May been this high. From January to May this year, the production reached a level of 61 131 GWh. This is 24 per cent higher than in the same period last year. By comparison; the electricity production so far in 2005 is only 2.6 percent lower than in the all-time high year 2000.

In May the import was 637 GWh and the export was 987 GWh. This represent a net export (export minus import) of electricity from Norway of 350 GWh. So far this year the net export has been 4 359 GWh, in contrast during the same period last year there was net import of 5 232 GWh.

Gross domestic consumption of electricity in May this year was 9 552 GWh, an increase of 6.4 per cent compared with last year. The consumption in the period January - May was 56 772 GWh. The electricity consumption in energy-intensive manufacturing industries was 2 922 GWh.
