Emma and Lucas most popular in 2009

Emma has dominated since 2003, and is back on top of the list of the most popular first names for girls. The previous year’s top, Linnea, dropped to 2nd place, followed by Nora, Sofie, Sara and Thea. Lucas continues on top of the boys’ list, right above the climbers Emil, Alexander and Oliver.

We expect that the trend with girls name ending with ”a” or ”ah” is on peak. 52 percent of the girls born in 2009 were given such names. 20 percent of the boys follow the international trend with names from the Bible. Also this trend is on peak.

The local variations are difficult to find, but Mohammad is still the most popular boys’ name in Oslo.
